For years, I’ve been helping clients come up with creative wall art ideas that maximize the visual impact of many different places including homes, offices, and commercial spaces. The key to interesting wall art is not always just the content of the image, but also the size, color, and formation of the design. Here are my top 5 favorite wall art ideas:
Large Wall Art = Large “Wow” Factor
If you’re looking for a big reaction from your guests, a way to get it is to hang a large piece of art in your space. Oversized wall art is unexpected, and it demands attention. If you have tall ceilings, make the art tall, and if you’ve got a wide blank wall, make a long piece of art to fill the space. Canvas art is the best choice to accommodate this creative wall art idea. It is very light, durable, and easy to hang in your space.
Triptych Art
Triptych Art (3 Piece Art) and other multi-panel art pieces are an amazing way to create a unique visual focal point for your wall. Rather than having one piece of art, why not have one that spans over three panels? Additionally, you are able to cover more space by increasing the gap between each panel.
Unusual Artwork Configurations
Taking the “triptych” approach one step further, instead of using three panels, an easy way to add impact to the art on your wall is to incorporate more than three panels. Also, rather than the traditional horizontal layout or vertical layouts, it is possible to configure panels in more creative ways and sizes.
Nontraditional Proportions
The great thing about custom artwork is that you are able to create nearly any size and any proportion. If you’ve got vault ceilings in your foyer, for example, you could create a stunning artwork that is narrow and very tall that extends from eye level to a couple of feet below the peak of the ceiling. If you have a long hallway in your office or home, the natural tendency would be to find several pictures or art pieces. Why not get one long canvas that extends throughout the wall?
Symmetrical Opposites
Many of my clients will often ask for a set of two pieces of art for their space. My first instinct is to create a few ideas using the initial image they select and then create an “opposite.” This could mean that I create the same art design with a different and opposite color. It could also mean that I take the image and “flip” if either horizontally or vertically to make the second artwork a perfect couple with the original. I often like symmetry and this is a perfect way to achieve it.
Undoubtedly, conjuring unique wall art ideas is one of my favorite things to do and I am able to do it effectively since I own the images (it is my very own artwork) so I can change the images to be whatever I want them to be. Each project is journey and I love collaborating with clients to create art that is perfect for their space.
