Let's ponder purple power, people.
Purple seems to always have a mysterious quality about it. It is certainly underrated in my view, and when I want an element of surprise, infusing purple can do just that. Plunked perfectly between red and blue, it tends to do the work for both.
Over the years, it has certainly become one of my favorite colors to use in an artwork.
What does the color purple convey?
According to colorpsychology.org, purple is associated with mysticism and magic, revealing a sense of the uknown and curiosity. It can inspire creativity, which could explain my own personal fascination with it. The color purple can have a calming effect on the mind and body.
Purple is associated with dignity and grace. Look no further than the honorable purple heart.
When should purple artwork be used?
Purple has a way of calming our bodies and inspiring our minds simultaneously. It can conjure feelings of wealth and royalty, yet also be cheerful and playful. It is seen as a bold choice, so use it if that's what you want others to perceive.
Purple can be challenging when paired with other earth tones, but can be a wonderful contrast when using warmer tones in the space.
Pairing purple with yellows, golds or grays can be a showstopper.
Here's a few of my artworks where purple takes center stage. I hope you enjoy.
