I've always admired paintings. I've never quite had the patience.
Or ability.
I'll just stand there and stare at paintings, admiring the artist's delicate paint strokes.
I've tried painting before and I find it really frustrating.
Painting is not made for perfectionists.
Fortunately, I am now able to paint digitally, and when I'm feeling especially creative, this is where I tend to go. When I'm feeling perfectionistic (always), I can digitally correct my paint strokes.
Here are some of my favorite abstract landscapes.
The brush strokes are heavy, but I wanted to maintain the precise detail in the branches.
I had this one in my brain for a very long time. I wanted to focus on the textures and details in the trees while presenting prominent autumn color.
The original photograph just lacked the character I was seeking. Heavy texture and color treatments did the trick.
I wanted surreal color, and only a painted look could make it work.

I enjoy turning classic nature scenes into modern digital paintings.
I found the silhouette of the tree to be captivating, so by adding texture and vibrant color, it became complete.
