Alaska has always been one of those destinations on my bucket list. So this year was the year to explore this amazing place.
Over 5,000 photos and these are some of my favorites. Of course, there will be more later, but let me show you why you may want to consider exploring Alaska.
This mountain shrouded in the morphing clouds really sums up the mystique of this place.
During a boat ride to see the whales in Juno, this whale posed with the mysterious Alaskan landscape.
I sat for hours on the balcony holding my camera in awe of my surroundings, just waiting for a scene like this to be presented to me. Lucky I was ready for it.
"I've never seen this before here in Glacier Bay." It was quite compelling to hear our resident Alaskan National Geographic guide say this. I purchased a powerful lens to magnify this tiny dot in the distance--a moose taking a VERY LONG swim.
Stopping in Skagway presented an amazing opportunity to see a landscape that kept changing with every turn.
The light just sprinkled the perfect amount on this scene and it seemed like I was looking at a painting.
The Yukon suspension bridge would sway back and forth which created a bit of a challenge holding still for a photo, but I tried and finally succeeded.
I was amazed by the patterns of these clouds and the water in Glacier Bay National Park. I can't explain how mesmerizing the colors were. You have to see it to believe it.
The clouds finally cleared to let some of the sun illuminate the mountain tops and smudge the remaining atmosphere with pink and purple hues.
When my float plane ride was cancelled due to weather, it was time to grab some land scenes in Ketchikan. A boat, a house, and a man in a canoe. I love when things are placed perfectly.
Perhaps my favorite Alaska photo that defines the spirit of an Alaskan cruise. The wind nearly blew me off the ship, but I had to capture this feeling. (The feeling of awe and grandness, not getting wind whipped off the ship.)
Stay tuned for many more photos of this treasure we call Alaska.
