You’ve seen these kinds of pictures before.

Drum roll please……a picture of a road.

I mean, a picture of a road!!

When I say that, it does sound a little underwhelming, doesn’t it?

Most roads are not worthy of drum rolls.

When the situation is just right, I find scenes of curvy, hilly, and even straight flat roads downright mesmerizing. Some might consider pictures of roads to be cliche, but I strongly relate to them.  What I mean is—I appreciate what they represent.  They signify travel, progress, curiosity, and mystery.  These roads I am on show how wonderful the here-and-now, at this literal and figurative exact point in time and distance, really is.

Sure, I feel like I see many not-so-exciting pictures of roads, and you can trust me when I say I’ve taken many of them.  It’s hard to embody the feeling at that moment.

However, there are a select few pictures of roads that stand vividly in my mind.  They help me remember where I was, how I was feeling, and perhaps even what soundtrack was playing.  These images of roads overpower my senses  with nostalgia.  It makes me remember having that inner fuel of anticipation.  What could be around the next bend?

I dedicate these to my dad who has told me before that pictures of roads never really “do it” for him.  Perhaps you feel the same way as he does.  Here are my best attempts to change your minds about how compelling images of roads can really be.
